The date notwithstanding, the target still doesn't make sense. There's no special political significance to the marathon as far as I know. There's no special connection between Boston and Patriot's day in modern history. And any older connection would seem to be a positive one.
Seems more likely that somebody else is either counting on the date to vilify the right or that the date is of less import than it might seem.
As for OKC, that job stank from the moment the bomb(s?) went off. I followed it contemporaneously, and the BS meters were pegged from the get-go. The only entity anywhere that gained from that blast was BATFE, who rose from the pyre of near destruction to become more powerful than they'd ever been. Right wing extremists? Says who, the left wing extremists who benefited?
