I am a Registered Nurse and currently work primarily on a Youth Psychiatric Treatment Unit. Most of my job has very little to do with treating actual mental illness and mostly treating the effects of poor or no parenting. I don't see eye to eye with the Social worker crowd who have given us the Mental Health treatment system in place in are country today. "It's not his fault, he doesn't understand that what he did is wrong." I made the comment one day to a coworker that most of the kids we take care of would be better off if someone took their parents out back and shot them in the head. This was heard by one of the social workers who said "Oh thats not true, I worked with most of their parents when they were patients here and they are trying as hard as they can" I chose at that point to shut my mouth and not comment on the appearent lack of effectiveness of what we were doing since it had become multigenerational. I guess I shouldn't knock it though. It is good job security for me but it bodes poorly for the future.
