Those aerostat balloons were not very effective anyway. Their use was severely restricted by ground winds and they were placed in areas such as Deming, NM and Ft. Huachucha, Az.(where the wind blows most of the time). The balloons were clearly visible when they were up and it was common knowledge that the narcos adjusted their flight schedules accordingly.

LOL...I once called a "break right" turn while fighting Hornets in southern AZ...turned out it was that stinking balloon!
