First, let's talk around the edges of the issue, even though I do NOT think that's where the discussion should be.
If you are asking for my opinion "around the edges," I'd say violent felonies would be disqualifying with fair due process provisions for reinstatement of rights. I would completely eliminate all the restraining order disqualifications because we all know how flimsy those claims are and how domestic violence and sexual abuse claims are a standard ploy in divorce and custody proceedings.
Sad to say, I think the medical profession has largely been flushed down the commode. Most graduating medical students no longer take any oath and physicians have become de facto agents of the government and insurance swindlers, no longer advocates for their patients. Sure there are exceptions (I think I am an exception), but the system has been intentionally subverted to the detriment of patients. I routinely advise people to be VERY guarded what they say to doctors and all "providers." HIPAA has made "confidentiality" more than porous, truly transparent to the marriage of big biz/big govt (we used to call that fascism).
Now to what I think is the heart of the issue.
I am totally opposed to fighting this battle around the edges because history shows where that leads—two steps forward, one step back for the gun banners has given them a century of steady gains and hurt us with steady losses. It is overdue for the entire gun owning community to take an absolutist "Hell, No!'" stance. As I have posted a couple of times here and elsewhere, we must not fight the battle that they have defined with their neurolinguistic buzzwords, neologisms, and imagery. They want to keep the discussion focused on horrific theater, cosmetics, and exaggerated and even partially fictionalized events (a worthy discussion for another time). They want the discussion to marginalize and demonize gun owners, because we are a wild card. We do threaten their command and control agenda. If we act in their script, their phony "if it saves one life" drama, we will lose.
Instead, we should play to our strengths. We must take the fight to them. We must tell them to their faces that we know they are a clear and present danger to us.
In the 20th century, governments killed 1/3 BILLION of their own citizens, NOT including war. Mass murder by government dwarfs all private violence. Our firepower is our only hope of protection against them, their democide and their looting. Our firepower is our only hope of bringing to justice all the perpetrators of crimes against humanity, including economic crimes against humanity, the dynastic banksters who for centuries have looted us, started wars, and will never be meaningfully prosecuted, punished, or made to make restitution by "our" government that they own lock, stock, and barrel. We need to tell them that our agenda is to bring to justice every perpetrator, enabler, enforcer, manager, bureaucrat, puppet, and talking head that assisted their crimes against humanity. Either they serve us or we serve them; there is no other outcome. Choose.
This is it and they know it. This is not a drill. That is why so many banksters and bureaucrats are resigning and going dark.
