Politicians always think of themselves first and the history of the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban is clear to all of them: The ban went into effect and then a few months later BOTH House and Senate became dominated by the Republican Party. Obama won his re-election by something like 350,000 votes, not a lot. He got his, but the other dems are hoping to be around beyond 2016 when he's gone. I suspect that this latest anti-gun surge will devolve into state-level legislation where anti-gun dems feel safer.
