I became interested with the article in Shooting Times. Everyone knows that the military is finding the 5.56x45 to just be too light. Also that we are now carrying two different cartridges (.223 and .308) which means to seperate platforms, two mags and two MGs. Thus you have a M4, a SAW, IAR, DMR (.308) and the med MG (.308). And that is just per squad.
I like the 6.5mm Grendel. Just concerned that it would be the best as a general purpose cartridge (GPC). Would we be better off with a 7mm or a longer case? Should we just scrap the M16/M4 platform? The Grendel does a great job working within the current platform. But would it be the best cartridge for the GPC?
I am seeing a lot of interest in the 6.5mm. Arthur Brown (http://www.eabco.com) is really pushing it for the Thompson Encore platform (6.5mm BRM is based on the .30-30 and has a performance is near the 6.5x55mm Mauser). I am putting together a piece on the GPC that I have gleaned from other sources.
