The 6x45 was only intended for use in a squad auto; 5.56 rifles and 7.62 GPMGs would have continued in use, making a 3-caliber system.
My understanding is that LRRP is partly on the same page as Tony, in that both would replace the 5.56mm SAW and 7.62mm GPMG with a single multi-purpose MG firing the new cartridge, and likewise with 5.56 and 7.62 DM rifles. But, where Tony would also replace standard infantry rifles and carbines to create a one-caliber system, LRRP would retain two calibers -- 5.56mm in addition to the proposed 6.5/6.8/7mm.
