LRRPF52 -- Good background discussion. Can you suggest a couple of 1 or 2 sentence descriptors of the cartridge for the new squad weapon? We don't need specifics like caliber and bullet weight, but need a description what the cartridge should be able to do. Remember that matching a current capability for a threshold is OK. But, the objective should be attainable with current mature technology. Tony has indicated that the current exercise has an eye toward defining the next generation system using the resulting cartridge(s).
Tony -- Reference cartridge weight, I missed, or forgot, whether the weight reduction included the adoption of plastic cases.
Stan -- The system LRRPF52 describes is something that sounds a lot like the Squad Automatic Weapon system of the '70s where a third caliber was introduced. Thoughts?
