Gallena Illinois is home to many old lead mines. There is naturally occuring lead in the soil in pieces that are big enough to pick up. There have been people living in that area for centuries. There you expect to find lead if you are lookeng in the soil. People there don't even think about it and seem to have no ill effects. Other places ( Chicago) people claim illness and retardation from the dust of old lead paint. You have to be careful, if you try hard enough you can find what ever you want too.
