I would encourage you to do it if you have the proper tools to take it on. If not, find a gunsmith to do it for you.
6.5 Grendel is SAAMI spec, but don't think 7.62x39 is. One thing to check is the barrel thread, although you can make it anything you want if you have the proper machines.
