Some of the flops that Hornady had and later turned some of them into golden children:
338 Ruger Compact Magnum, which was introduced in 2008-never went much of anywhere, later necked-down to 6.5mm and voila.....6.5 PRC, a huge success
The RCM was Hornadys answer to the WSM and RSAUM cartridges. They looked at George Gardners success with 6.5 SAUM GAP4S and necked down RCM to 6.5mm for the PRC.
Hornady also worked with Ruger to develop some magnum revolver and big bore hunting rifle cartridges, in addition to their work on the .17 HMR, .17 HM2, and the .204 Ruger.
6mm HAGAR (30 Remington case necked-down to 6mm, never caught on)
The HAGAR is the one that most dont even know about, although Hi Power folks that were around remember it. 6mm HAGAR was brought to Hornady from John Harrison and Sid Goodling (HArrison Goodling Automatic Rifle), so not really Hornadys baby at all.
