Nice build. Have something similar in 5.56 (11.5 inch barrel). The dead air sandman short has some weight to it, but it will take anything you can throw at it. Light placement is all about working with your grip. I use the stream light pro tac with 45 degree offset and pressure pad. I dont like anything messing with my sight picture either. I have used a streamlight tlr without the pressure pad on the 9 oclock position and it was very intuitive. Depending on grip you can operate the light with pointer or thumb. See fast- shoot fast
