Tech support (in India, of course) for the hosting service says, "SSL gets expired every 90 days and it gets installed automatically. This time when it was getting installed, the error occured. As specialized department for SSL is working on it, I have submitted the case to the department and they will resolve it for you." Supposed to be resolved within 24 hours (starting late last night), and so it should be resolved by tonight knock on wood!
I don't think this is a hack attack, though I'm constantly deleting sign-up attempts for fake memberships from Bangladesh, Hanoi, and God-knows-where.
