I recently spent 3 days running a private LR clinic for a guy who landed a limited bull elk tag.
We spent the 1st day shooting on a 1000yd flat range, 2nd day doing field positions out to 800yds with tripod, bipod, bags, and pump pillows on 12 steel plates.
He came back for a follow-up field shooting session out to 800yds, fine-tuning his equipment and LR shooting right before leaving for the guided hunt.
Bagged a beautiful bull elk at 850yds the next weekend.
He was shooting 300 PRC though. 212gr ELD-X, suppressed.
Do you have any ranges near you that will allow 500-600yds by chance?
Thanks! That is what I was looking for. Ballistics show above 1500 expansion number to about 600.
BTW - I have shot 600 yard completion and some PRS so I can do that with no issue. We have several pipelines that go to about 600, but deer sure look small out there at dusk! Cant really stalk them. We are normally in a box or tree stand so by the time you get down and walk they are long gone. Woods are thick (pine forest, clear cut, etc) and they are typically only moving right before dark and at dawn. I typically use a 260 Remington on the pipelines but I occasionally have chances while doing drives and walking around.
