I just got my first 6.5 Grendel complete upper yesterday. It has an M4 profile barrel. I borrowed a complete lower and a Scope, Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8, from another carbine so I could take it to the range today. I fired 1 shot at 100 and I was on the edge of the target. I dialed some windage and shot two 3 shot groups, both 7/8" with Nosler factory 120 grain BT ammo. I said all that to ask, do I need to get a scope configured like yours to wring out the 6.5 Grendel. I have acess to a 1000 yard bench rest range.

If you want to shoot to 1000 yards you should check to see if the scope will have enough elevation adjustment. I shoot at 450’ above sea level and need a 20 MOA mount to get enough elevation with out having to use hold over with the scope reticle to get hits at 1000 yards. If your at higher elevation you might not need a canted mount. Many scopes have about 70 MOA of travel so approximately 35 MOA of upward adjustment. With a 20 MOA mount I get 55 MOA of adjustment which is enough to shoot from sea level to 1000 yards.

I know the distances where I shoot and like second focal plane scopes but it boils down to personal preference. The higher quality glass usually requires less magnification but the amount of magnification might be determined the the size and color of your target at distance. When I was shooting in Wyoming at 7200’ ASL the air is much clearer than at 450’ ASL and I might not need as much magnification at high altitude as I would use at sea level.
