Someone did ask me why I wanted the CDS on a scope and rifle that may only be used out to 300 yards or so. It’s a fair question. What I wanted specifically was the Firedot, but the custom tailored turret is free, so why not get it. I do use the CDS turret on the 260, though not very often. I recently took a coyote at 250 and a fat doe at 275. And last year, forgive me if I’ve mentioned it already, I used it on a hog at 400 yards. That was the moment that I decided that the Firedot was a great thing. I knew the hog was at 400 yards, because he was in front of another blind that I have. Light was dimming fast. The hog was black, the crosshairs are black, and the field is almost too dark to see the hog. He was a dim sight. I dialed the scope, put the illuminated dot at the dimmest level, and shot the hog. Without that scope I never would have been able to make that shot with any other rifle/scope combination I have. I’ve come to have great confidence in shooting with that scope. The furthest I can shoot on our place is 500 yards. I have not tested the scope to that distance yet, but wouldn’t shoot at a deer at that distance. Pigs and coyotes will get shot.

I’ll test the CDS on the grendel out to 400, just in case. And worth mention is that probably the grandson will use this rifle for deer hunting, and he doesn’t have 60 years of shooting and deer hunting experience like I do. The CDS will benefit him.
