Well I can speak to my reasoning for building one, so hear me out.
I was deer hunting with my fathers R700 in 30-06. My buddy Ian is sitting back to back with me in a 8ft octagon blind we built 30 foot up in the air.
We sit there most of the morning seeing a doe here or spike there. He taps me on the shoulder close to 10am and I turn to see one the cleanest 8pt bucks Ive ever seen, trotting out in the open. I hushed Ian, threw the gun up, and let loose within a split second.
I saw the shockwave off the bullet fly the 70 or so yards and saw flesh ripple on impact. Ian and I were screaming at each other immediately after, saying we couldnt hear each other.
So from that moment on, I had a goal. A semi-auto powerful enough to kill a deer to 300 yards, lighter than a R700, no longer in length, and quiet enough to not go complete deaf shooting it unprotected once a year.
So I built a 12.5 Grendel into a pistol, stuck a sandman TI on the end, and had a short 7 pound boomstick with more than enough ftlb of energy to drop a whitetail. The 129 ABLR gave me expansion to 700 some yards, and more than 1800 fps out to 200+ yards.
Contrary to popular believe, the 130s dont lose much speed out of a short barrel. And with the absolutely bonkers BCs they put up, your 4 point blank range lasts out to about 175 yards near sea level.
