A Friend had hunted coyotes for decades with a Savage 243. He started using an AR-15 in 6.5 Grendel with 85 grain Sierra varmint loaded with CFE223. As far as I know he never went back to the 243. He said he liked the fast follow up shots and the 6.5 Grendel was just as lethal. Another friend was big into hunting ground hogs with 264 Win Mag using 85 grain Sierra varmint.
Ive water tested 85 grain Sierra varmint, Speer 90 grain TNT and 95 grain V-Max and the 85 grain Sierra varmint was the most frangible. The 6.5 Grendel probably isnt fur friendly but from my experience the 85 grain Sierra varmint is up to the task. There are more modern design bullets with higher BC and is why Sierra discontinued the 85 grain Sierra varmint and introduced the 6.5 BlitzKing.
