85gr sierras on coyotes

FIRST OFF, SHOT PLACEMENT IS CRITICAL !!! ESPECIALLY ON COYOTES !!!! Now that’s out of the way I have recently changed to shooting the 85s at night with my thermal. Since then I have nailed 3 dogs all good solid shots but found only 1 and it made it about 40yds downhill to a river and died. That shot was a facing front shot just below the neck and it made it that far. The other 2 once again was good shots the coyotes went down like a sack of taters but didn’t stay they took off. One no blood and the other was a minuscule amount never found either. I’m a decent shot out to 200 off a tripod and my gun shoots these bullets great 2775 fps sub moa . I know your going to have runners but is it just tough luck or are there better bullets to try ? Experiences welcomed. If they are gonna run I want at least a good blood trail You guys know how they are
