My guess is that he has a thing against the metric system. For awhile, I worked in a factory that made precision bearings for the transportation industry. One of our most popular had a 20mm ID, but no-one knew it was metric because we called it 0.7874". When Engineering decided to go all metric (to match up with our competition), you should have heard all of the howling about how our machines couldn't cut a metric dimension. Tell your gunsmith to get with the program.
