The advice given is spot on for what I have experienced. I have ar grendels that shoot 1/2" to 5/8" groups. If I try to free recoil them they got to 1 1/2 rifles real fast.

Like the OP...I would get the occasional good group and just scratch my head wondering what was going on. Finally started figuring it out by trial and error.
