24" Barrel lightweight AR build?

I just bought one of these. Yep, definitely not going to make for any kind of lightweight "upper" setup, that's for sure. Mine's getting a 35 oz Athlon Ares scope too. It'll be more like an artillery piece.

I don't know why you couldn't have a barrel like the above turned down (reprofiled) though. Can be done by either of these companies:
