Thermofit on bcm is dependent on the barrel extension for sure. I have a Ballistic Advantage barrel on a bcm upper, and though it was tight it did not require Thermofit. It was sufficiently tight enough that it required some effort (not much) to fit and bedding the barrel I see as unnecessary on this upper. I did square the face, which essentially was just leveling out the anodizing on my particular upper from my observation.
On the other hand I have multiple aero uppers, and every one I've bedded the barrel into.
Given the aero costs more, and requires more "work" to fall within my own personal requirements I see the bcm as the superior value and product in comparison. I still haven't found the "blem" on the 3 bcm uppers i have built.
