I run my 20 Shilen on a carbine length spring and carbine buffer. I have a JP adjustable gas block but have never needed to adjust it once initially installed. With an adjustable gas block you should be able to adjust the gas to work with about any buffer weight. If I were building my Shilen today I wouldnt use an adjustable gas block. I dont use suppressors and with the proper size gas port the 20 rifle length gas 6.5 Grendel is very smooth shooting rifle.
