I bought a couple of B&C M40 stocks for my Mini rifles in 22 & 6.5 Grendel, then a Boyds ProVarmint for a Mini in 20 Tactical, after I decided I didn't care for the more open radius of the Boyds Prairie Classic stock's pistol grip. I went with the optional laser stippling on the ProVarmint grip & forend, as I'd had one of these stocks without it on a Mini in 6.5 Grendel, and didn't care for the slick surface of the laminated stock. And just last week, I drove down to Dodge City to pick up a B&C Sporter for a new Mini in 223. No question in my mind that both versions of the B&C stock come up & into position more naturally than the ProVarmint stock, but to be fair, I feel the ProVarmint was designed to be shot either off a front rest or bipod, while the B&C stocks are more practical for stalking/hunting IMHO (and are quite a bit lighter than the ProVarmint, which makes them easier to carry for long walks while hunting than the heavier laminated wood construction of the Boyds stock (the ProVarmint on my 20 Tactical also has the adjustable cheekpiece, which adds a few more ounces, but makes it more comfortable in prone or bench shooting than the same stock w/o this option). Since we don't have much in the way of prairie dog towns out here any more, my anticipated use for the 20 Tactical is for coyotes, which is one of the reasons I went with a 1-9tw bbl, to give good accuracy with bullets as heavy as the Berger 55gr LRBT. I've yet to take a coyote with that combination, so don't know whether the 55's small meplat hollow point will expand on coyotes. With hunting coyotes in mind, I'd probably be better off with another B&C #1002 sporter stock replacing the ProVarmint...but for now, think I'll leave the Boyds stock on this rifle until I find out the extra weight & bulk actually do get in the way of coming up and/or swinging on a running coyote.
