This is the process I do for all my rifles. All bolt action. I do not have any ARs.
Set the rifle up on the bench with muzzle pointing slightly downward a few degrees. Remove the bolt and place in bore guide. I use Wipe-Out brand foaming cleaner. Shake up can and spray a generous amount to fill the bore. I let it soak for at least a few hours. Sometimes overnight. Put a paper towel under the muzzle to catch the dripping. Dewey rod with Parker Hale style jag. Give 4-6 strokes back and forth. Continue changing patches until they come out clean. Usually takes half dozen cotton patches. I only use a brush occasionally. And its always a nylon brush. A guy I know that shoots F class turned me onto this process a few years ago, and I feel that it works well. But everyone has their own ways.
I dont clean my hunting rifles every time. Only if I was hunting in foul weather. But I do shoot pdogs a couple times a year and go through 700-1k rounds each trip. I use this same cleaning process @ the end of each day. Usually around 150 rounds per day per rifle. These are both 700s chambered in 22-250. One has a Krieger barrel and other has a Rock Creek.
