Scope horrors

My neighbor has a Ford Explorer and he told me it's developed a shimmy in the steering wheel. He asked me what I thought. I told him that if he hadn't cheaped out on the Ford and gotten a Mercedes SUV instead, he wouldn't have had any troubles. It didn't solve his SUV's problem though.

I don't think this is a particularly good analogy. I doubt that's a "Ford" problem. More likely a tire-out-of-balance problem, and possibly an old, cupped tire from being out of balance a while. You don't fix that kind of problem by buying a different vehicle. You replace/rebalance the tires.

Unfortunately there's nothing you can fix on an inexpensive scope. Or any scope for that matter. They aren't really serviceable, generally speaking. You just need to buy a higher quality scope. Better materials, better assembly and QA. Luckily, you don't need to spend a grand to get a good one. A couple hundred will get you a decent hunting scope. For a tactical scope, you might need to spend a little more than that.
