I just read the document placed in the Federal Register entitled "Objective Factors for Classifying Weapons with Stabilizing Braces".

It asks for comments. Hoo-boy are they going to get some. Although there is a fair amount of useful information about "making or remaking" a pistol into an SBR (like installing a scope that has an eyebox that is useful only when the weapon is shouldered), there are still a lot of judgement calls.

It appears that I was wrong about other manufacturers not asking for approval. This document states that they have had numerous requests for evaluation.
