My own take on this, is that you have much more to fear from the "modern liberal", than the progressive. The liberal is a waffle, who goes whichever way the wind blows. They are populists, who react to perceived consensus, freely adopting trending positions as their own, without necessarily understanding the depths, thereof. Sheep.
Progressives are entrenched. You know who they are, at all times. They don't need someone else to figure out for them what to think. In fact, they often are the narcissist in the leftist co-dependency of liberal and progressive, where liberals are the enablers. Progressives will use the liberal to gain mass and momentum, but secretly despise them for being, well... Sheep.
Liberals give progressive positions teeth, and popularity, where most people in a free society, might tend to marginalize them. Until you get to the level of entropy that we are currently witnessing. Welcome to the shit show.
What ever term a person uses, "when a government, individual or group of people" forces others obedience" it becomes tyranny. Freedom is self determination and choice....Forced obedience and collectivism is evil...Here is the original definition of liberal......
