Warning - Bad Burris Rings Causing Bad Accuracy

Years ago a good friend of mine who is a Gunsmith installed these Burris rings on my rifle with a Weaver rail to save me money. He believed that a rail was better than lapping for alingment. They are Burris 1" Signature Zee Weaver-Style Rings. I had never mounted a scope and he was teaching me how to do it his way. We spent a lot of time getting the scope plumb.
I have seen Gunsmiths in magazines and now on Youtube talking about lapping rings. I always worried that taking the finish off the insides of the rings would cause corrosion or a loose scope. I have bought quality rings for years and have never an found issue with the machining. I have used rails or aligned the bases to keep from lapping rings for alignment.
I always had 2 MOA fliers with this rifle so I fugired that 200 yards was max range with it. I finally have the time and the money to get this problem fixed. I bought a picatinny rail and new quality rings.
When I was removing the Leupold Gold Ring scope I noticed the scope tube has some finish scraped off on opposite sides front and rear that matched the ring tops shape. I looked at the tops and fould the finish scraped on them too. I put the tops back on where I removed them and finished removing the rings and found the really poor machinig that Burris had done. See picture for the obvious quality problem of the tops creating a ledge on one side as compaired to the bottoms. The tops radius is wrong when check on three scope tubes.

I installed the new rail and rings and the rifle is MOA with no fliers. Obvious now, the rings caused the fliers. I'm planning on always buying high quality rings like I have been doing for years and check the quality. For those that lap their rings, are these rings even able or worth being lapped to fix a manufatures defect?
I have three Burris AR-P.E.P.R. mounts that are great and didn't need lapping. Any manufacture can make a mistake that's why there is QA/QC.
I hope my posting will help someone else with the same or similar problem with accuracy.

I would be on the phone to Burris because something is definitely mismatched. Seems to me this should have been caught before the scope was placed in them.

BTW, the Signature Zee uses the plastic inserts and from what I can see in the photo, these are the standard Zee rings which do not use the insert.
