There are some custom barrel makers that chamber this. Barrel is welded to an offset lug in order to have the 17WSM rim in the proper place.
Even then there are ignition problems, as the 17WSM rim is pretty hard.
Buddy has one for the Contender/G2 and the Encore. Even the Encore had ignition problems, he tinkered with the firing pin and got it working.
The OP would do well to just rechamber to 17 Hornady Hornet and go on. A lot of unnecessary headaches and cussing will be eliminated. The Hornet is over and above the 17WSM. The 17 WSM major issue at this time is ammo more than platforms. Winchester makes ALL of the 17WSM ammo at this time no matter whos box or head stamp.
Any difference in ammo will just be from lot to lot variances much like other rimfire ammo.
do i understand that a 17 hornady hornet contender barrel could be made to work? are these barrels available?
