Get an M16 carrier. The extra power hammer spring will only make your trigger pull heavier, and accuracy would likely suffer. Did you have any failure to activate primers? The hammer spring does fight the rearward movement of the BCG, but should not be used to time your system.
I'm thinking that adjustable gas block and an M16 carrier will help you, since it sounds like your gas port is pretty large. A fast-cycling bolt is especially weird for Nebraska this time of year. Since you'll be dealing with major temp shifts over the year, the adjustable gas block might be of even more help for finding a sweet zone for your loads.
