Folks,
I took out my Upper built with a Monster 16 inch, 1:7.5 barrel in 6.5 Grendel to the range yesterday. Did a easy break in of it, shoot, clean, and so on. And in a word it did fantastic. I was at the range from about 11am to close around 5:45. Total rounds down the tube about 350. Was careful not to let it overheat, and the quality for dollar equation on this barrel is out of this world.
The ammo used was the 123gr SST, 2.245 COAL, 29.5gr of BLC-2, x1 Hornady brass, and a #41 primer. After sighting in at 100 yards, my come ups were 2moa for 200, 5.5 moa for 300, 9 moa for 400, 13.5 moa for 500. Accuracy was superb, some groups were .75. My chrono died along time ago, so approximate velocity at muzzle was 2400-2450.
The other load was the 129gr Nosler ABLR, 26.5 gr TAC, x 1 Hornady, #41 primer, COAL was 2.26. Accuracy was excellent. Some groups were 1.2-1.45 inches. Zero was set by adjusting the zero of the SST down by 1 moa, 200 2.5 moa, 300 was 6 moa from zero, 400 was 11 moa up from zero, and 500 was 16 moa up from zero. Guestemated velocity based on these come-ups, is between 2280-2350. Any other shooters that have experience with the ABLR, and TAC or CFE223 I would like to hear from you. Especially if you have used a 16 inch barrel.
The barrel cleaned up nicely, there was NO copper fouling! I ran some Sweets 7.62, and zippo! Overall very pleased, extremely high quality barrel for the $139! Kudos to John! A2
