I'm glad DoD can use that extra 5% or whatever to defeat barriers, etc.

As a civilian shooter who wants a good general purpose AR15-sized rifle, I'm just not there yet in terms of giving up all my 6.5G handloading gear and affordable ammo to gain that extra little margin of performance. I'm also not very interested in a 14lb match rifle with a 24" barrel and a big scope on top.

It does sound like the sweet spot for DoD is an 18" barrel, as Barrett seems to be contracted to supply the REC7 DI in that barrel length.

I like the look of it for longer range shooting, which is a lot of what I do. An 18" ARC slinging 108gr ELDs right at, or even a bit over 200fps faster than my 16" Grendel will launch 123gr ELDs is pretty interesting to me.
