The simple version for the heart-girth weight estimate is to find the SMALLEST circumference around the hog behind and touching the arm pits with the tape snug around the hog.
Take that number in inches and multiply by 10 and subtract 200 from the result.
So a 38" circumference would be 180 lbs. A 42.5" circumference would be 225 lbs.
The actual formula involves multiplying by 10.xxxx and subtracting 205.xxxx and gives you nearly the same result with a pound or two until you get way up there with really large hogs.
It does not work on piglets.
I suggest checking against a scaled hog to be sure you are doing it correctly.
