Let me put it another way.

We take a big risk believing velocities alone tell us where the sweet spots are for the tightest groups. Bullets can come out of a barrel with similar velocities but be pointing in different directions (as the barrel whips around).

I like Henka's thoughts on this...That you use the chronograph to confirm what velocity your barrel is giving and then have an idea where the safe working limit is. From there however, it is shooting groups at targets.
