Considering magneto speed chrono

The sporter magnetospeed was a great improvement over my old sky-screen unit, really like it. One thing about the Labradar that a guy at our local range told me was it didn't work there as there are multiple overhead baffles down range to prevent errant rounds going beyond the 300 yard berm.
The magnetospeed makes getting the data much easier than before. Now if they would just open the range again!

I’ve have a LabRadar and “that guy” is only 1/2 correct! There a 2 trigger settings on the LabRadar, Doppler and Audio. The Doppler is NOT recommended at ranges with overhead baffles, especially if there is any “steel” in them. In that case the Audio triggers works best.

If your only going to use the chrono with a couple of guns, I’d recommend the Magnetospeed Sporter, or the full blown top end model if money is not an issue. If you have a whole battery of guns and want to cycle back and forth quickly between them, then the LabRadar can make a lot of sense. Having said that, the LabRadar can be finicky at times and is prone to being triggered by other shooters at a crowded range and “can” experience trouble tracking really fast small projectiles. Think 17 Hornet, some 204, even lite weight 243 bullets at times.

All in all, I think the Sporter is probably the best “value”, and the most forgiving and consistently reliable to use, IMO.
