There is another difference between load values from 40 years ago and what is published today.
There wasn't a lawyer behind every tree back then.
Safety is always primary. Everything stated in these posts above are true and well thought out. In hand loading, overall observation of every variable is important to safety and a chronograph should be in every handloader's tool set.
