I tend to agree with Montana here, though I can see both sides. I don't know if I've ever had a malf due to gas tube obstruction. The pressures we're talking about would unceremoniously remove any obstruction in it's path. Think of a gun barrel. The only true problem would be a large solid particle, which honestly would be hard to imagine ever getting in. I think this is mostly a solution looking for a problem.
