You should get a relative steady increase in velocity per incramental charge. At some point this will either spike or plateau, this generally is the node your looking for. It you start at a random point in a data list, you may miss this point for your barrel.
Generally book data is conservative because of all the unkowns. So being under max I'm not overslly concerned about you blowing your gun up. Just cautious about doing that as a matter of course, since you wanted to verify your reloading procedure.
