I've always liked this set-up:

I have to say that I've never noticed one with Type D stock. Do you have any pics of those? I would think that the Type D's had been fully replaced by Type E's, and then A2 stocks by the time they started putting the SPR program together. In my first unit, we had M16A1's, but they all had A2 furniture on them. That was in 1994-1995, and in late 1995, we got A2's, which I didn't like.
