The flaw in your reasoning is that the assault weapons ban is not legislation proposed by elected politicians.

It is an initiative from private citizens, which bypasses the legislative process, to be voted on by the people.

Sending such a petition to the legislature can not, and will not, prevent the BAWN initiative from proceeding.

Then it would be a petition, "to show voters" the thousands of voters who don't support the gun ban initiative. Every initiative has supporters and detractors. Once again, it is a petition of 2ndA supporters, " erasing a one sided argument for support" of an insane anti gun bill or initiative. If there is more, then someone from Florida would have to clarify.
