After an hour and 10mins of constant ON last night I switched it off. It was dropping in brightness and I thought it was because the battery was running out. After turning it off and letting it cool for 20 minutes it was back up to full brightness. I went looking for more info and found a review on Candlepower.com. The review is the early lower-output model but the graphs show how an uncooled LEP drops in output fairly quickly, irrespective of power. When he puts a fan on the torch the output stays brighter for longer.

Seems the phosphor layer has to be kept cool to work efficiently. Not suited for long uninterrupted sessions.
More photos, this time the 400M steel with the LEP and against a 75W HID hand-held spotlight with 240mm reflector. You can see the 400M target better including trees behind the mound and wider field of view with the spotty but that's to be expected. Obviously can't weapon mount the spotlight. Need a power source as well.
The target frame at 100 is in the way of the 400M gong but you get the picture.

Forgot to add...it gets warm to the touch, especially round the front, but not hot. You can still hold it with bare hands after it warms up.
