There were some important lessons, though. A couple that come to mind:
- It's suicidal to draw on a man who is aiming a shotgun at you, especially when your draw is as slow as a snail.
- Being armed does not protect you from the bad guy's bullets. If you're planning to be in a gunfight, wear body armor!

I will carry a firearm and defend myself.
This incident is very simple. Armed citizens defended themselves when the police were not there. The killer was shot and killed before he could kill anyone else.
