Hopefully in another few years we will see the 2 part cases (steel case head married to the brass case - SIG NGSW ammo and /.277 Fury). If someone gets on the boat for the Grendel, then Mini and Short action bolt guns can really start to push the limit as I suspect the case pressures will be able to withstand 70k or more.
A 123 or 130 running at 2800fps out of a Grendel chamber...doable. 6.5 CM speeds.
This changes the game for everyone then, and the 6.5 CM will turn into a barrel burner running the same or higher pressures.
Really need to see the leap in barrel technology that can handle the plasma from the ignition and speeds we will be able to push high BC projectiles. New coatings, Rifled inserts or ceramic throats and first 4 inches of the lands and rifling timed to the rest of the barrel. One theory is a cobalt plate machined or hammer forged rifling then rolled to insert/press into a smooth bore.
Meanwhile PRS matches and others using steel plates keep reducing the speed limit to prolong target life.
