I second pretty much everything you said about them but I have not had issues with mine holding zero. I'm sure Ed will work with you if you think there is an issue with your scope.
My primarily use for this scope is varmint hunting and have not had problems hitting small critters at 100-150 yds. The reticule does take some getting used to, especially for small targets.
I used it this weekend for hog hunting from a helo and I had no problems with it in terms of target acquisition and engagement. The only down side is looking through a tube while chasing running hogs in an aircraft will have an unsettling effect on your gut.
An Eotech may have been a little more user friendly in this respect.
