If we have to force the "other side" to respect our rights under the 2nd Amendment ( or any other ) then all we have done is traded places with them. The reality is that we need the recognition of fact that the issue is not firearms but the actions of a questionable few who would abuse the trust of others with whatever tool was available. Doesn't matter if its a gun, a car, a propane bottle or a van full of fertilizer, they would seek the same result. Remember, there were no firearms present with Timothy McVea in Oklahoma City, there were no firearms present on 9/11 and we could name more. It could almost be said that if access to firearms were eliminated, the casualties would be even higher as the "tools of destruction" become much less selective. I would rather face a shooter in a crowd than some fool with a backpack full of C4 or ammonium nitrate.
