LOL, I had trouble getting good blood trails with my .45/70 and .308. As noted, it depends on where you hit them. Every so often, I get a good gusher, but otherwise, they don't tend to be great, but where I shoot them, usually, often isn't highly vascularized or I shoot too high up and the body has to fill with blood before it gets high enough to leak out of the holes I put in the hog.
Also adding to what A5Blaster said, hogs have the near magical quality of sealing up wounds. If you shoot boars through the shield, or a fat boar or fat sow, the shield and/or the fat can often pinch closed the wound where you get minimal leakage. This works much like self sealing fuel tanks or military aircraft. You will tend to NOT get a blood trail if you don't have an exit wound. Entry wounds just seem to bleed a whole lot less.
