Lapping project - trying this out

I use the vertical method too, but I believe the never use a drill method is a bit too much. Unless your drill chuck is bent, this is unnecessary. Spinning the lapping tool by hand could create uneven pressure, if I wanted to be critical of that method. The upper receiver BCG channel should fit the lapping tool fairly snug and will keep the lapping tool aligned, as long as adequate pressure is applied. I take it one step further and lap the bolt face and rear bolt lugs to the barrel extension locking lugs as first revealed by LRRPF52. I then micro slick "Cerakote" the barrel channel and bolt carrier.
