Lapping project - trying this out

Thanks for the replies. While I thought by applying lateral pressure it should have evened it out - I think you guys are right. And the wear patterns of the lapping are consistent with the thoughts on that. Sounds like I need to put it in vertical and lap it again, to be sure.

I did order a crow's foot, great suggestion there too. And an adapter, for my 3/8" Torque wrench to fit the crows foot. Should be able to resume work on this late this week.

As to WarGrendels point on using grease - I thought about that! My brief search on alternatives such as teflon tap, teflon pipe thread sealant goo, and grease, all showed commentary saying those shouldn't be used; though not with very good explanations on why. For the grease, I'm guessing the temperature rating may not be high enough? Not sure, but I just ordered a couple oz of the mil-spec stuff and called it good. FWIW, here's my parts list so far. It's all little but adds up in time and a little cost. Some of this stuff has almost no usage, outside of this very specific project; which I kind of don't like. I shopped around, since this wont' be every day usage stuff. One can spend 3X this much for better quality versions of the same stuff, real fast:

Plain old found at any auto parts store Mobil one tube grease will work perfectly and a tube will last you several thousand ar builds and rebuilds.

And it's better to lapp with the tool vertical and just let the weight of the tool do the work for you. Don't add pressure too it.
